Note: Linux is a  free operating system (OS)  for your computer, and far more secure. Why, would you still use the "Highly critical" $199 Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, or $299  Microsoft Windows XP Professional on your computer?

The price of a Linux distribution depends on a number of factors - is it supplied with commercial software, on media such as CD-ROM or DVD and is printed documentation provided? We would recommend that a Linux beginner pays some money to get Linux on a CD-ROM - in the long run the initial expense is easily covered by the time saved learning how to use this operating system

For the Linux beginner we definitely recommend obtaining Linux on CD-ROM ($10 - $20) rather than downloading it over the net as even with a cable modem Linux will take a long time to download. However if you have a fast net connection you can download Linux from: LinuxQuestions.org LinuxISO.org , Linux Help - ISOs to name a few. We recommend MandrakeLinux, or Fedora Core, or  Suse Linux.

Linux

Why  use linux rather than windows?

  1. Cost- you can get better software for free.

  2. Reliability- No  "Blue Screen Of Death"  and no countless lock-ups. In fact, you may not need to reboot for years.

  3. License issues- You will never have to fear a visit from the "software police."
